Much
of Saori's inspiration comes from nature (Saori is herself an avid
organic gardener), and her designs are a reflection of her
surroundings. Because of this, we are very conscious of the
environmental impact of our work, and we strive to minimize our
carbon footprint as much as possible. While more traditional jewelry
businesses may employ a large number of toxic chemicals and
processes, we actively seek green alternatives in order to produce
designs that are not only attractive and functional, but also
friendly to the environment.
For example, many companies will use sulfuric acid to remove
firescale left by soldering; we use only non-toxic and biodegradable
plant-based products. Our packaging is made from 100 percent
recycled paper to help conserve our forests, and all metals that we
use are recycled; we do not purchase from mining companies.
Furthermore, as all of our pieces are handcrafted
one at a time in our Seattle studio, we don't produce the toxic
byproducts associated with some pieces that are mass-produced in
foreign countries.
The jewelry manufacturing process doesn't have to
be an environmentally unfriendly one - what needs to change is the
thinking of the manufacturers. At Saori C. Jewelry Designs, we like
to think that we're doing our part to help out. |
